Our Understanding

Having begun its academic life in 1991, Marmara College was founded in Maltepe with Atatürk’s objective of “raising a youth with free thought, free conscience and free knowledge” and with the principle of “Education first, then comes Teaching.”

The education period in Marmara College which is a Turkish Private Anatolian High School affiliated with the Ministry of Education is five years, including one prep year. In the prep class, a second compulsory foreign language (German, French or Spanish) is studied in addition to English. The students who begin to learn one of these second foreign languages in the prep class continue with the same language as compulsory lesson in the 9th  grade. The students can continue their second foreign language education according to the field they choose in the 10th, 11th and 12th grades. The students who achieve the adequate success rate (55 %) placement test in Turkish and English held at the outset of high school education are entitled to begin their high school education directly from the 9th grade. The students who successfully complete or bypass prep class study the Maths and Science group lessons in English beginning from the 9th  grade which is the liberal education class.

In Marmara College which was authorized to implement IB-DP programme by IBO, the students who proved successful in 10th grade Maths and Science lessons and who intend to receive education abroad receive two exams, written and oral, and if found qualified, they are entitled to continue the IB programme. Although 10th and 11th grade lessons are taught in English, the lessons the content of which have the quality of university preparation are taught in Turkish. And all the 12th grade lessons are taught in English, with a content and quality in accordance with the requisites of university preparation as based on the curriculum.
