The Young Communicators at TGC Press Media Museum

Marmara Private Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School 11th grade students visited the Turkish Journalists Association Press Media Museum, which is the first press media museum in Turkey and fourth in the world, with Şadan Alptekin on Monday, October 16.

Serving as the TGC Press Museum since 1988, the building was built by Saffet Paşa, the Minister of Education in 1965 with neo-classical architecture and it is used as the building of the Ministry of National Education and İstanbul Ottoman University (Daru'l-fünun). The first international art exhibition was held in this building during the years it served as İstanbul Ottoman University in 1875. The four-storey building used as the censorship building during Abdülhamit II was transferred to İstanbul Municipality (Şehremaneti) in 1908 and it was used by İstanbul Municipality from 1908 to 1983. In the halls of the building, which was decided to provide service as Press Museum during the presidency of Nezih Demirkent in Turkish Journalists Association, the tools, telling the evolution of the press technology were exhibited. In the museum, in which you experience a journey full of the lithography samples, the platen machine, the guillotine, the old typewriters, the telexes and the telephones, the belongings of the famous journalists contributing the Turkish press are exhibited. The students of the Vocational School had chance to have detailed information in relation to the sector.
