Curriculum

At Marmara Education Institutions, English teaching begins at the age of3 inkindergarten and is completed at the end of the 8th grade at the level of B2 within the framework of common European language criteria. In this process, students develop their four skills of language (listening, speaking, reading, writing).

  • Since teaching by reading and writing is unavailable till the second semester of the 1st grade, in this period their listening, understanding and speaking skills are developed. During these years, the students learn both their mother tongue and the foreign language by natural ways like repetition and imitation. Play, song, nursery rhyme and dialogue studies are carried out with students. At each grade level, there is one foreign language speaking support teacher as well as one Turkish speaking teacher.
  • Great effort is made in order for the students perceive English language as a means of communication intead of a lesson till the end of the 3rd grade. In this process, students learn lingual structures and grammar rules without academic explanation.
  • 4th and 5th grades are periods when students learn the rules of language by way of similar activities. Elementary level is completed during these years. In this period, students study mostly with original stories.
  • In 6th, 7th and 8th grades, students reach the levels of intermediate and upper intermediate respectively. In this period, original materials are chosen in order to introduce them to literature.
  • Attitudes and skills acquired from kindergarten to the end of the 4th grade are consolidated within the scope of the programme implemented during secondary school. Within this programme, students use English as a menas for getting access to knowledge. Our students optionally enter the ESOL exams, one of the most credible exams held throughout the world by Cambridge University. Our students get accomplishments above national and international averages every year.

While 3rd graders of the Marmara Private Elementary School can attend the STARTERS exam, 4th graders can attend the MOVERS exam. And in Marmara Private Secondary School 5th grade can attend the FLYERS exam, 6th graders can aattend the KET, while the 7th graders can take the PET exam. Our students also develop their skills of quick and correct thinking, efficient use of time and problem-solving by way of SBS studies carried out within the framework of the Ministry of National Education.  

  • Within the academic year, students find the opportunity to improve their communication skills at Portfolio day in which the products of their individual and group works are exhibited.   Moreover, each class successfully stage their own show in foreign language at the end of the year.
  • Thanks to quizzes held after each unit completed or each story/poem/novel read, weaknesses and strengths of students are determined and supportive studies are carried out with the students who need. Students are also supported with edification courses held throughout the year.

The graduates of Bodrum Marmara Private Elementary School can do the following in English:

  • can fluently and correctly express themselves both written and verbally. They improve their reading skills and can understand and interpret an original piece or book. 
  • can express their critical ideas both written and verbally.
  • can make research by appealing to foreign literature.  
  • are acquianted with different cultures and have respect for cultural differences.  
  • can watch foreign TV programs and follow foreign websites.  
  • improve their creativity and put it into practice via the projects and compositions they prepare.
  • can analyze and interpret original artistic products (short story, novel, poetry, drama, film) and can make problem solving and analyzing practices.
  • learn several narrative and writing styles (letter writing, narrative essay, descriptive essay, persuasive essay, etc.) and can write in these styles
  • reflect the characteristics of the Active Learner Profile. Thus our students begin their higher education as critically thinking, researching, risk taking, principled, open minded, responsive and distinguished individuals who are equipped with foreign language skills, who can express themselves self-confidently and who re respectful to other cultures.

Second foreign language teaching begins from the 5th grade in Marmara Education Institutions. Students select one among the languages of French, German and Spanish. In the 6th, 7th and 8th grades, they reach the levels of “intermadiate” and “upper intermediate” respectively. In this phase of language education studies of introduction to literature are carried out with original materials. And within the second foreign language learning programme, students take 3 hour classes in a week and at the end of the 8th grades they reach A2 level according to the European Language Criteria.
