ADVENTURE AND DISCOVERY CAMP

23 students taking part in the programme of “The Duke Of Edinburgh’s International Award”, bronze category have successfully completed the first three steps which are “Social Services”, “Skills and Acquisition” and “Physical Development”. The students attended the “Adventure and Discovery Camp” which was the final step of the programme organized between 21 and 22 October 2016 in the rural area named Yenisofça Mevkii having 40 km distance from Eskişehir in touch with nature. The acquisitions expected from the students taking part in the category team work and cooperation skills by increasing the self-confidence of the students, respect for the nature and environment by developing the adventurous and discovery spirit and revealing the personal performances.

All the students had been trained preliminarily by the Adventure and Discovery Programme Supervisors Sedat Toy and Mehmet Eren. The students backpacking whatever they would need for two days spent in the nature including tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, cooking kit, foods and waters started the journey. The students, walking 24 km in two days in total with a specific purpose in two different routes by using topographic maps and compass, spent their first night in the tent that they pitched. At the end of the second day, the students reaching the arrival point had many important experiences besides being in touch with the nature. The step of the programme provided the opportunities for the participants to gain unordinary experiences in a completely unfamiliar environment. Moreover, the step helped the students to recognize the nature and understand the importance of protecting it besides developing their personality.
