Best Buddies social responsibility project that operates in fifty two countries aims establishing mutual friendship on equal footing between individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and volunteers. The non-governmental and non-profit organization has an international structure with 800.000 volunteers.  Anthony Kennedy Shriver, the founder and the nephew of John F. Kennedy, one of the presidents of USA initiated the project in USA Georgetown University in 1989. Best Buddies Turkey has operated since 2010 under the supervision of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and under the roof of Alternatif Yaşam Derneği (AYDER).

The project started in 2013-2014 academic year in Marmara Educational Institutions continues with 27 students under the roof of “Best Buddies Club” in 2016-2017 academic year. "Best Buddies Turkey" programme coordinator Fidan KARAAHMETOĞLU came to the school and gave an introductory presentation; so the first steps were taken for the Marmarian volunteers. In the second step, "Leadership Training" was held on Wednesday, November 16, under the leadership of Sercan DUYGAN. In the third step, on Thursday, November 17, Lora PAPAZYAN provided training on "Approach towards Disabled Person". Following that it was communicated with "Dreams Academy" for the students to be matched this year.
