Students from many different cities of Turkey as well as Kazakhstan participated in the “World Scholar’s Cup” local tournament, which was hosted by Koç Schools on March 29-30, 2019. More than 850 students from 52 schools participated in the tournament. It was recorded to be the largest local tournament in the WSC history. 14 Marmara students, who were accompanied by English teacher Melike Çalışkan, joined the tournament in 5 teams and had an extraordinary success.

Our students competed in categories such as Scholar’s Bowl, Team Debate, Collaborative Writing and Scholar’s Challenge. They won 4 cups, 57 gold medals, and 41 silver medals and earned the right to participate in the world finals. Azra Deniz Kasırga, Melis Duru Dönmez and Duru Çakır’s team left tens of schools behind in the Team Challenge category and came in 1st. Our team came in 4th in the Team Bowl category as well as the general evaluation of the teams. Our students Huveyda Zelal İlbak and Azra Deniz Kasırga were ranked in the Champion Scholars category and got their names written on the Champions’ List. Moreover, Azra Deniz Kasırga won the Asimov Award by becoming the winner of the Individual Challenge Overall category.

After months of hard work and two tiring days at the tournament, our students received a recompense for their work and earned the right to participate in the world finals with significant rankings. We congratulate our students and thank all our teachers, who participated in this success.
