THE SCRABBLE TOURNAMENT THRILL AT MARMARA COLLEGE ONCE AGAIN

Marmara College hosted the “Middle Schools’ Scrabble Tournament”, which became traditional, on January 3-4, 2019. 34 schools and more than 200 people participated in the event.

The tournament consisted of four rounds and lasted for two days with so many participators. It started with a magnificent opening ceremony and continued with a mini concert of our high school orchestra and the certificate ceremony.

The competition started with an explanation of the details and declaration of the tables. The first two rounds took place on January 3, the third and fourth rounds took place on January 4. On the first day of the tournament, there were 33 tables and 132 students in the first round. Then, the first and second students of each table of round one, competed in round two. There were 16 tables and 64 students in round two. Semi-finals and the final round took place on Tuesday, January 4. Every round was challenging for our referees as the competition never stopped.

                Lena Sarıoğlu from Private Feriköy Armenian Middle School won the tournament. Yusuf Metehan Yalçı from Private Küçükyalı Tekden Middle School came in second, Rina Akbaş from Private Bezciyan Armenian Middle School came in third and Letisya Sürmeyan from Private Feriköy Armenian Middle School came in fourth.

                The first prize was an external hard drive, the second, the third and the fourth prizes were; a wireless headset, an English Scrabble set and an English dictionary set respectfully. The students received their prizes from The Head of Foreign Language Department, Neşe Sarışın and the tournament coordinator, Pınar Çırpanlı.
