27th TRADITIONAL MARMARA BOOKWORM FAIR

The 27th Traditional Marmara Bookworm Fair took place on December 17-21, 2018.

The ceremony started with the music concert performed by Deniz Duman, Deniz Sarı, Deniz Şamdan, Beril Yılmaz, their music teacher; Nursel Valandova and continued with Principal of Marmara Private Elementary and Secondary Schools Yasemin Yılmaz's opening speech.

In her speech, Mrs. Yasemin Yılmaz emphasized the importance of reading, how it enriches a person and mentioned that sometimes a book can change the life of a person.

This year's guest of honor of the fair Dr. Emre Kongar, pointed out the connections between the phases that the societies experience and the phases that the individuals experience in his speech. He compared the societies’ forager and nomadic period to infancy; the agricultural and settled period to childhood; the industrialized society to juvenescence; the information society to maturity. He stated that the ideology of the maturity period should be democracy. He also added that we should respect every human being without exception, just because they are human beings. Emphasizing that people should treat others the way they want to be treated, he stated that it is not possible for us to understand Atatürk without having this perspective of society.

Principal of Marmara Private Elementary and Secondary Schools Yasemin Yılmaz presented a plaque to Emre Kongar. Afterwards, the autograph session started and the Press Club students had an interview with Emre Kongar.

We would like to thank Emre Kongar for sparing his precious time to enlighten us.
